KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 17, 2025 – The second season of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) has not only crowned a new champion but has also rewritten the history books for Nepali sports, emerging as a colossal commercial and organizational triumph.
The tournament concluded earlier this week with the Lumbini Lions completing a fairytale turnaround. After finishing at the bottom of the table in the inaugural season, the Lions, led by national captain Rohit Paudel, defeated the Sudurpaschim Royals by 6 wickets in the final to lift their maiden trophy.
A League of Records Beyond the boundary ropes, NPL Season 2 has been hailed as a “Festival of the Himalayas.” For the first time, matches were played under floodlights at the TU Cricket Ground, transforming the venue into a vibrant spectacle of music, culture, and cricket.
The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has reported record-breaking figures:
Economic Impact: The league is estimated to have generated over Rs 1 Billion in direct and indirect economic activity, boosting local tourism and hospitality.
Viewership: Digital and broadcast viewership shattered previous records, with millions tuning in globally.
Gate Receipts: Ticket revenues nearly doubled from the first season, with sold-out crowds becoming the norm for evening matches.
Star Performers Captain Rohit Paudel was the standout performer, earning the “Player of the Tournament” award and driving home a brand-new car. He finished as the highest Nepali run-scorer with 276 runs. “We believed from day one that we could win, and the support from the fans under the lights was magical,” Paudel said during the presentation.
Other notable winners included Sandeep Lamichhane (Best Bowler) and Namibian star Ruben Trumpelmann, proving that the NPL has become a premier destination for top-tier international talent.
As the floodlights dim on a historic season, NPL Season 2 has firmly established itself as Nepal’s most valuable sporting asset, promising an even bigger and brighter future for cricket in the nation.
